I'm just starting to get prices for new tires for my '65.  Any suggestions?  I have Firestone white walls now and they've been great, but they are almost 11 years old so it's time to think about replacements.

Hi Gail,

If you're looking for great tires that are correct looking for your Mid Year go to Diamond Back Classics - you can find a great set of radials that fit your car perfectly.  Here's the link http://www.dbtires.com/tires.html just go to the Corvette section of thier catalog.  They have both white walls and red lines that would look great, ride nice and run long and they have no markings on the sidewall in keeping with that classic look.  You can also call them for detaled info on what you want.

It seems that there are no more high performance tires offered in 15" diameter..., a very sorry state of affairs.

I was lucky that I got some of the last ZR-rated, 225/60/15 Firehawks on closeout ($65/each IIRC) at The Tire Rack a few years back.

If you can find something you can use, The Tire Rack usually has the best prices (even with the shipping charges) and you can have them shipped directly to your installer (e.g., Big O Tires).  That's what I do for ALL my cars.

Diamond Back Radials are created from state of the art molds from manufacturers like Michelin, Firestone and others and sold under private label.  If you contact them directly they will tell you the speed rating for the tire you'll want on your car.  I'd be surprised if you couldn't get a hi performance "speed rated" tire from them.   I think they will have a tire that will look exceptional on any midyear and speaking for myself, I'll run out of guts and glory in my Mid Year  long before I exceed the speed rating on the Diamond Backs its riding on.

:D
